Joel Swanson is Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies at Sarah Lawrence College. He holds a PhD in the History of Judaism from the University of Chicago Divinity School, and his writing has appeared in Haaretz, the Times of Israel, the Jerusalem Post, the Jewish Forward, and the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
