After an article in Christianity Today, arguably the mouthpiece of contemporary American evangelicalism, alleged that a Rev. Moon-like, self-proclaimed messiah was affiliated with The Christian Post that publication hit back with allegations that one of the article’s authors was involved with child porn.

Once we understand that there are shades of evangelicalism, and that they manifest in a variety of political convictions, perhaps we can recognize that religious beliefs deserve legitimate space in the public square.

Young evangelicals who have taken up Wilberforce’s abolitionist banner are discovering that lacing social action with a concern for “the suppression of sin” is miring their efforts in needless controversy and threatening much-needed coalitions.
