Randall J. Stephens

Randall J. Stephens is a Reader in History and American Studies at Northumbria University. He is the author of The Fire Spreads: Holiness and A major subset of modern evangelical Christianity characterized by a strong belief in “gifts of the spirit,” such as speaking in tongues, prophesy, the discernment of spirits, and faith healing. He also wrote, with Karl Giberson, The Anointed: Evangelical Truth in a A neutral term used to describe someone or something, such as in law, as non-religious in character. He’s currently working on a book titled The Devil’s Music: Christianity and Rock since the 1950s (under contract, Harvard University Press). In 2012 he was a Fulbright Roving Scholar in Norway. He has written for the Atlantic, the New York Times, Salon, and the Chronicle of Higher Education.
