Leave your judgments at home. There’s enough oppression going around as it is. Everyone can work on it in their own way and still contribute to the cause—contribute, and not just financially, to organizations that have already been doing this work. Three of my favorites are Political Research Associates, the Center for New Community, and ColorLines. You can volunteer. You can follow their feeds. You can send money. They’re in it for the long fight, and they always have been. Don’t spend all your time creating a whole new organization or building a campaign off the ground. It’s probably fulfilling, but not necessarily the best way to use your considerable talent or resources. Bring new energy to the existing organizations.
