The New York Times: U.S. Support of Gay Rights in Africa May Have Done More Harm Than Good

After PRA brought to light the anti-LGBTQ and anti-reproductive efforts of the U.S.-based World Congress of Families abroad, senior researcher Rev. Dr. Kapya Kaoma explains to the New York Times how U.S.-based LGBTQ groups and even the U.S. government need to be careful not to fall into the same neocolonial tactics that the U.S. Right has been using in Africa for years. Kaoma explains how LGBTQ Africans are becoming increasingly caught in the American culture battles being waged in Africa, saying “When two elephants fight, the grass will suffer. This is what’s happening in Africa. African LGBTQ persons are just collateral damage to U.S. politics on both ends.”
