Senior fellow Fred Clarkson is interviewed by Eleanor Bader of Truthout, and criticizes the town of Ave Maria, Florida—created by Tom Monaghan to be an all-Roman Catholic society. Clarkson raises the serious questions of possible 1st Amendment violations. “A guy like Tom Monahan does not get to rewrite the Constitution in accordance with his religious or political viewpoint. … For me, the real question is one that Thomas Jefferson asked: Are you as free to go out of a church as you are to go into one? Or are you a captive of the company store?”
